What is the Difference Between a Bariatric Rolling Walker or a Rollator?
Many people think that a bariatric rolling walker is the same thing as a rollator but it's simply not the case. They are actually two different kinds of products. It is true that each will help people with mobility problems to get around; they go about it in two different ways.
What is a Walker?
There are two different kinds of walkers on the market, rolling and or not. A rolling walker will make it easy to glide along the floor in front of you to help you get around. One without wheels requires you to lift the walker and push it forward each time you want to take a step.
Types
The bariatric rolling walker is one of the most popular types of walker on the market. They were designed to hold the weight of someone who is overweight or obese without putting a lot of pressure on the body.
Regular walkers can generally hold weight up to about 350 pounds but bariatric walkers will accommodate up to about 600 pounds which means that they can accommodate many people with mobility issues that can't use another type of walking device.
You can also find different types of specialty walkers on the market designed with people who have posture problems, or who have a hard time walking at all. These types usually have special wheels that will accommodate people that need extra balance and walking support.
Rollators
A rollator is similar to a bariatric rolling walker only in that it helps people to get from point A to point B. A rollator usually comes complete with a seat, wheels, and even a basket to put belongings in. The way is works is to help people walk with as little effort as possible by allowing them to glide with the help of the seat and the wheels. There are both three wheel and four wheel versions, all of which tend to be designed for style so you can find a number of colors, designs, and features when shopping for one.
Rollators tend to be more expensive than bariatric walkers, so they may not be the best investment unless you are severely limited in your mobility. Using a bariatric rolling walker will help to keep the muscle tone and to get you a little exercise to, which in the long run can keep you stronger, fitter, and longer lived.
You will find a variety of bariatric options to choose from but the basics of each will be the same so don't expect a lot of bells and whistles. What you can expect is relief when walking, the ability to get places you normally can't go now, and the opportunity to be able to rely on yourself again when it comes to doing normal everyday things.
